Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set it aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses and hot water.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • For best results, wrap the cooled gingerbread loaf in plastic wrap or foil and let it sit overnight before slicing.
